when i try to download avg antivirus free security,it says i need to uninstall old security centre, but is my p.c still safe?
Well your computer isn't really safe with either.
Good security requires a multi-layered approach, and the least important layer by far is running some kind of anti-malware program (in fact, if you take care of all the other layers, you don't even need an anti-malware program using up extra resources).
In order of importance:
1. create and use almost exclusively a limited user account instead of the default administrator account Windows sets you up with
2. Read up on social engineering and how to avoid it
3. Don't download illegal copies of software, music, or movies
4. Set Windows updates to install automatically
5. Make regular backups. If possible, back up your entire installation (using Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image)
Hello,
(ANS) no.1 YES! it all can get rather confusing, in recent versions of windows operating system Microsoft have included something called the security center. this is integrated into windows & is designed to provide one location were you can see all the security related features loaded on your computer. such as the windows firewall, windows defender, etc.
No.2 When you download AVG and install the anti virus program windows security center should normally detect this product and so it should show up clearly in the windows security center. Anti Virus softare is seen to be a vital component of the windows security center.
No.3 YES! if you have another anti virus program or security related program you may need to a) stop the service running or b) remove it completely.
No.4 DON'T attempt to run x2 anti virus programs at the same time as this is almost certain to upset your system & possibly cause instability in your system.
my advise would be ONLY have x1 anti virus program installed & running at a time were ever possible. even if its not AVG but some other makers product.
No.5 Its NOT the windows security center you would need to un-install but some other security suit such as Norton security suit or other anti virus product. YES! Its safe to uninstall one product provided you install the new program in a short space of time afterwards. i.e. a few minutes. DON'T leave your system without any AV software at all for a long peroid of time as that probably does leave you more vulnerable. which is not a desirable state of affairs to be honest with you especially if your connected via broadband to the internet.
Hope that helps?
PS: AVG FREE is a very good product & I highly recommend it too.

First of all make sure the one you download is REAL avg there are many fakes that look very real.
If you are 100000000000% sure then yeah you can uninstall old version.
If you are worried about protection while you are doing that it shouldnt take that long.
But to be honest BUY a real version if you want real protection
you need to remove the old one first otherwise there could be conflict between the two, leading to errors. i've always used avg and found it an easy and safe site.
Yes otherwise they will clash together. You only need one security centre on there.
Most anti virus software attracts the virus ive tried them all and always had a virus ii now have no software and no viruses.
no, your comp will be in great danger, dont install avg
