Why does the TSA need better technology now as opposed to then?
First, if I told you, I would be arrested. As to the second question, although I think they are going overboard, the mere fact that they have better technology than they did nine years ago has to do with a general trend of increasing technological abilities over time.
If you don't believe in evolution through natural selection, or anthropogenic global warming, you might not accept that premise either.
