SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Tessera Technologies inc., which licenses miniaturization technology for electronic devices, said Tuesday that a federal appeals court has ruled in its favor in a patent dispute.
The company said the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington affirmed an International Trade Commission opinion from last year that wireless chip-makers, including Qualcomm inc., Freescale Semiconductor inc. and Spansion inc., infringed on Tessera's patented technology.
Motorola inc., which was among the companies Tessera targeted in its lawsuits, has since signed a licensing agreement with Tessera.
In a statement, Tessera said the two patents in question expired on Sept. 24 but that it would continue to try to recover royalties for periods before the expiration date.
Tessera said its U.S. District Court lawsuits seeking royalties from Freescale, Qualcomm, Spansion, ATI Technologies and ST Microelectronics NV are on hold while the companies appeal the International Trade Commission's decision.
Tessera shares gained $1.45, or 7 percent, to close at $22.09.
