I really want to get this kit on ebay to make a burning laser, but i don't know how to short out the cap or whatever it says. Could someone please tell me how to do this at home. here is what the warning says
Please use caution when handling this module and wires, powering the diode, attaching the diode to a capacitor, & attaching the diode to a powered circuit or previously powered circuit; as a static shock, over voltage, a charged capacitor, or reverse voltage can destroy it instantly and may not be apparent at first. Electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection should be practiced. you should short out any capacitors before attaching the diode and do not attach it to a powered circuit. always have the wires securely attached in your circuit, if a wire gets loose even for a split second that could destroy the diode. to reiterate; short out any caps before attaching; secure all connections; do not attach the diode to an already powered circuit. a protected diode is a happy diode.

You can use a resistor of a couple hundred ohms to short out the capacitors. Since the capacitors in the picture are small value low voltage electrolytics you can just short the two capacitor leads together.
to discharge any capacitor just connect a bit of wire from one of the terminals to the other. careful not to get zapped, if the cap is large.
Low power ones; just bridge the terminals. Big high power ones you'd better be careful and use an appropriate power resistor to burn off the charge.
1 take batteries out
#2 goggle image search capacitor there is a round looking thing and a cylinder looking thing with a stripe on it there are 2 wires coming out of each of these take something metal and carefully connect the two wires for a short period of time, repeat for every capacitor
do it the way the guy above me tells you to if you want to be all osha safe but he's a wuss its a small laser pointer right? you will be fine
