The letter says that someone (or people) has hacked into their website and that my personal info may have been taken. now they want me to send a form back so I can have a free year of debix. (it also asks for my soc. sec. number on the form.. Is this a scam?
I got the letter to. I wouldn't sign up for the free debix monitoring system until talking to a lawyer. the people who hacked the website got access to your health records, ss number credit card numbers and who knows what else. the fact that they offer only one year of credit monitoring service is a slap in the face, these people can use that information whenever they want years down the road. by signing up for the service you are basically saying that what bcbs is offering is acceptable and you may not have a case later down the road for further reparation.
Ignore the idiot who said this is a scam.
I just called Anthem myself and they verified that both the security breach and Debix subscription are legitimate.
What I recommend you do in these situations is look up the phone number yourself and call the company that sent you the letter. this is opposed to trusting someone else to give you the correct phone number / information. A little effort goes a long ways in that regard.
It is not a scam, I too am on the list. Type this in your google bar: Anthem Bluecross Blueshield security breach. you will find several newspaper and law suite and other people victimized by this breach. the letter says to go to www.debix.com/protect. that is wrong you need to put in www.debix.com/protect/ the last slash is need to get to the page that asks for your activation code which will lead you to the free subscription.
What ticks me off, is they will protect us for a year????? Someone could sit on our info for years before using it.
Then what?!!!!
Jara,
It sound like you need to report abuse. Face book has change there security as well. Also you need to have a firewall security on your computer. I utilize Norton Anti Virus and it also protects any one from hacking into your computer. I have the same problems with my computer, however this software can get rid of any attacks and blocks out any unwanted Hacking from your fire wall. the only thing you can do now is contact your Blue Cross on your card not on line! Be careful of taking anything from your computer now and make sure that it is cleaned from any unsecured Virus. Here is a e-mail notification that I received.
Good luck. Love Auntie Diana
